David J. Seel
Abstract
The incidence of cancer of the head and neck in Korea is of such a magnitude that it deserves our special attention. This portion of the body with its complex anatom-ical relationship and organs belonging to multiple body systems, is wisely considered as an unit for the purpose of management of cancer.
During the 4 years period from January 1961 to January 1965 two hundred and four patients were recorded in our hospital who came to us with primary malignant neoplasms of the head and neck. The anatomical and pathological entities are shown in Table 2. & 3.
The sex and age incidence, pathological classification, the treatment and the salvage rate of each 13 head and nick tumors are presented. Enough time has not passed to present 5 year or 10 year survival rate of our cases.
The overall salvage rate was 30.9%, salvage rate of the cases treated with intent to cure was 52.9% and the salvage rate of the determinate cases were 51.3%.
